By the way,Professor Liu:
Is the offial translation for “法律语言学”Forensic English? As you said at the top of your homepage, it seems that generally we will start the research with traditional linguistics, rather than the pragmatic aspect of legal English. So do you think if it is proper to call our research "Forensic" -or is the research on Forensic English in other countries narrower than what we do in China?

The term "forensic linguistics" comes from English countries, which is accepted generally. In a narrow sense, it is used in judicial procedures, but in a broad sense, it covers any aspect which is relevant to language and law. Just because of this, "法律语言学" is most commonly used to refer to forensic linguistics. Some scholars call it "司法语言学”; one calls it “法语言学”。
Forensic linguistics is very practical, and so we should pay close attention to how linguistics is used in practice of law. However, if you"d like to study it in a traditional way, it"s quite o.k. because it has a large scpoe.
P.S. Linguistics and English do not mean the same thing,and either do forensic linguistics and forensic English.
